Brief Explanation of Kloud

As part of our 2nd year architectural design course at the University of Auckland, 20 students from the University of Auckland are creating a light installation in the form of an interactive Nightclub based in Christchurch as part of the Luxcity 2012 event. This event hopes to engage both the local community and visitors in an exciting and artistic night, full of impressive projects from participating universities. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the one night event, held on the 20th of October.

We are in association with White Elephant Trust; an alcohol and drug free youth based organization, which works to create safe party environments and events for the young people of Christchurch.

The Interactive Nightclub(KLOUD) consists of five tensile fabric units and smoke filling a volume of 20m3, with animated projections syncing to a live DJ feed. For more information on this project and the event, check the link to the luxcity website:

Meeting with fabric engineers + Sponsorships

FABRIC ENGINEER MEETING:

Last week we met with the fabric engineers to get an idea of what needed to be solve.
They gave us a lot of helpful advice on how to create our fabric tensile structure and complications we would have faced when constructing this down in Christchurch.
We would like to thank the fabric engineers for taking time to help us out on the construction of our light club.

DUNLOP - Foam & Fibre

We also visited Dunlop foam and fabric and have the sponsorship sorted for the poly beans which is awesome!

Thanks Dunlop!
The companies that assist us with help on our installation will be given exposure through flyers around Christchurch and their names being projected throughout the night on our light club.

Health and Safety Plan Document + more development

Here is the plan on how our group proposes to create this light tensile structure

This week we will hopefully be working on a 1:1 prototype after getting our material sponsorships sorted hopefully
Then get onto using the smoke machine we bought to create multiple layers of projections and planes and to see these effects in action!

Here are some precedent images and videos that are very intriguing:
