Light Club Proposal (Alfred, Angela, Louie and Taylor)

KEY IDEAS of focus in our design are fluidity and adaptability and interaction.
Fluidity through the movement of people in our club, adaptability of form/s and spaces, and interaction through a two way process (people with the structure, and the structure with the people).

LUXCITY Brief 2012

LUXCITY, the D4 project for 2012,  is a large scale fabrication studio with the purpose to produce a city of light for a one night event at the Festival ofTransitional Architecture (FESTA) in Christchurch. The project is organized as collaboration between the School of Architecture and Planning UofA, the Spatial Design Department at AUT, the Architecture Department at Unitec, the School of Architecture at Victoria University and the School of Architectural Studies at CPIT. In collaboration with Christchurch based clientsapproximately 20 design studios with over 350 students will be involved to design and construct fully functional pop up programmes such as bars, restaurants and theatres.

The overarching strategy across the courses will be to use light in conjunction with large scale demolition machinery to create structures that are both ephemeral and contend with the vastness of the urban scale. Each studio will have an individual brief but will share the common framework of the LUXCITY project. The studios will establish a specific team structure to allow for the creation of a common, high quality, large scale contribution to the event.
